Facets of Light

It takes incredible pressure—
and a very long time—
to turn coal into
a diamond.
Add another million years,
and the death of many plants,
to form coal from
the earth.
Let’s set aside their
material worth—
and appreciate them for
their brilliance.
It is the cut—bending, trapping, and redirecting the light—
that creates the signature
sparkle.
It’s the dispersion of rainbows
that gives a diamond its fire.
If you were the light,
or the diamond,
or the coal,
or the ancient plants—
the pressure would stay
pretty high.
Being bent, trapped, redirected—
feels familiar, doesn’t it?
Maybe we are each a facet,
a cut that redirects the light.
And together, seen from the right perspective,
we shimmer with brilliance
and begin to understand our worth.
As we gather and disperse,
we cast rainbows,
carry fire in our depths,
and ground the light into the world.
With all this pressure right now—
