The lake has risen
Spilling past its boundaries onto the trail
A silver and rainbow fish
Floats belly up against a piling
Myles investigates revealing
She’s alive, but unable to right herself.
She doesn’t look afraid to me
Even paddles closer with one fin,
As if to say
Take my body, I accept.
When my daughter was little
We had a goldfish.
One day I found it floating upside down
Appearing dead in the tank.
Out of desperation to spare my daughter pain,
I tried Reiki on it—holding my hands on either side of the tank.
To my surprise, it worked.
The fish healed, flipped upright and lived for months.
This happened 3 times with that goldfish.
When it finally passed, we were all ready to let go.
So, maybe I could help this fish too?
I knelt down and she moved into my hand.
I sent Reiki energy
Myles patiently waited without interfering.
The fish seemed a little surprised.
I felt a small shift, but noticed no miracle.
So---we left her there with only a blessing
Feeling better to have done what we could.
