Breaks Away
Mar 27, 2022The brittle stem
Of last season’s flowering
Breaks away
With only a gentle tug.
The plant guiding me to all of
The stems ready to go.
The bush had been looking a little
overrun and unkempt.
A good excuse
To spend some time.
No one likely to appreciate this work,
Except for me, maybe a neighbor,
And the bush, who stands a little taller
With the excess weight removed.
I wonder if the plant
Might be using me to thrive?
I offer a blessing to the plant kingdom healers
For reminding me
To weed out that which
No longer grows fruit in my life.
Even if the flowering season
Had been truly beautiful.
Without the excess weight
I can stand a little taller.
And direct life to break away
Any attachments ready to go.
Leaving a space for
Flowers yet to bloom.
